Content Policy
Writer guidelines for Awesome Websites. Last updated June 2026.
What we publish
Awesome Websites is a multi-author publication focused on technology, culture, and the web. We welcome well-researched, original articles that provide genuine value to readers. Strong pieces typically:
- Offer a clear angle, argument, or explanation — not just a summary of Wikipedia.
- Are written in clear, readable English.
- Are a minimum of 300 words and a maximum of 20,000 words.
- Cite or link to credible sources where factual claims are made.
- Provide meaningful value beyond what already exists on the web.
What is not allowed
- Spam or thin content. Articles that exist solely to generate backlinks or drive traffic to an unrelated site will be rejected.
- Excessive self-promotion. You may mention your own work in context — but an article that is primarily an advertisement for your product or service will not be approved.
- Misinformation. Do not publish false or deliberately misleading claims.
- Hateful or harmful content. No content that targets individuals or groups with harassment, hate speech, or incitement to harm.
- Plagiarism.Your submission must be your own original work. Reproducing others' writing without attribution is not permitted.
- Content that violates applicable law. This includes copyright infringement, defamation, or content illegal in the jurisdiction of publication.
Review process
Every member submission goes through an editorial review before publication:
- You write your article in the member editor and save it as a draft.
- When you're ready, you click Submit for review. The article enters a review queue.
- Our editorial team reads the article, checks it against this policy, and either approves it for publication or rejects it with a note explaining why.
- If rejected, the note is shown on your dashboard. You can revise and resubmit — but resubmission counts against your daily submission limit (3 per day).
- Approved articles are published immediately (no additional wait time). A notification email is sent to you.
Trusted authors — members who have a track record of high-quality submissions — may have their articles approved automatically on submission.
Format: Markdown only
The editor accepts standard Markdown only. Do not paste HTML tags — they will appear as raw text, not rendered markup.
